The department of physics was established along with the establishment of the college in the year 1965 with PUC under private management. The undergraduate course in physics was started in the year 1967 with 21 students.
The department was fortunate enough to have N.V.Subba Rao as the founder head of the department in shapng the department as full pledged. Subsequently he became the Director distance education of Andhra University. His successor Ram Koteshwar Rao who became the Joint Director of Higher Education contributed a lot for the development of the department and then J.Bhasker Rao became incharge of the department and contributed a lot for the development if the department.The department has built up area 4000 sq. ft. consisting of laboratories 1. Mechanics 2. Optics 3. Electrical & Electronics with dark room & staff room.
For the last 40 years many distinguished academicians worked in this department.
Prof. M.Salagram who worked earlier as a lecturer in this Dept. later joined at Osmania University as faculty member of physics department. The first batch student of this college Sri. Ravi Kumar is working as Scientist at Sriharikota. Ex-Students of this department Mr. Lacha Goud working as Professor at O.U., Mr. Chandra Lingam is working as Professor in JNTU, MR. Vijaya Kumar is working as Professor at Kakatiya University and Mr. Prahallad Rao is working as Head of the Dept. in New Science College, Hyderabad.
