The Department of Botany was established in 1965. At the time of starting of the department PUC and B.SC(BZC) courses were introduced.
Dr.ST.Ramachandra Chary, Smt.Bagyalaxmi and Dr.Raghava Rao were the faculty members. In the
Department, Botany was the regular course. After some time the computer applications was attached to Botany. Later on in the place of computer applications, Bio-chemistry was attached to Botany.
Presently only Botany is running in the department. The College administration has applied for M.Sc(Botany) course with Palamur University and the department of Botany is very much equipped with the sufficient infrastructure to commence M.Sc, Botany soon after the approval is granted by the affiliating university.
About the Faculty &Facilities:
The Department of Botany has been functioning under the able guidance of two doctorates and other senior faculty members holding eight publications to their credit which are published in reputed national and international journals. Botanical garden is the brain child of department of Botany which is an important infrastructural variant of MVS Govt.Arts and Science College.

Department Labs:
There are four rooms in the department with a dimention of 30x20 feats. Two rooms are being used for practical classes i.e., Laboratory-I and Laboratory – II. Laboratory –I is used for conducting I year and II year practical classes. Laboratory II is used for conducting III Year Practical Classes, One room is being used as staff room. The fourth room is being used as herbarium room and sitting room for supporting staff.
Departmental Achievement :
1) Students of this department are selected for
P.G.Courses offered by the prestigious universities of the country like university of Hyderabad, Osmania University and Kakatiya University.
2) The department has successfully signed an MOU with RARC palem for conducting collaborative research through which students are enlighted with contemporary developments of Botanical research.
Department Events:
1) The department of Botany takes pride in
organizing World environment day on June 5th of every year to enhance awareness levels of students and other stake holders on environmental protection.
2) A departmental level seminar was conducted in the
Year 2012 on Photosynthesis which is headed by Dr.K.Mutha Reddy, an eminent academician from Anantha Padmanaba Arts and Science College, Vikarabad.
3) An another seminar was also held on Protein synthesis under the guidance of Mohd.Ziaddin Lecturer, Sri Vivekananda Degree College, Mahabubnagar in the year 2012 to increase cognitive levels of teachers and students.
